Motor Racing at Goodwood: An Illustrated History

Author: Robert Barker

The story of motor racing at Goodwood from 1948 to 1966 covers the most exciting formative era in the postwar history of the sport. During the 1950s, talented British drivers, designers and manufacturers came together as a force that could take on the rest of the motor racing world.

Goodwood earned a special place in the motorsport history of those years and in the affections of those who competed and spectated there, and recent Goodwood revival meetings have rekindled interest in the circuits distinguished past.

In this sympathetic, authoritative and finely illustrated account, Robert Barker recaptures something of the unique atmosphere of those pioneering days and celebrates the commitment and ingenuity of the enthusiasts who transformed British motor racing after the war. 260 b/w, 5 Ill.

About the author
Robert Barker started school a few days before racing began at Goodwood. It was another six years before he saw his first race there, but he was immediately captivated both by the place and the sport. An insurance broker by trade, he has maintained a lifelong interest in motor racing and has a particular affection for Goodwood. He is an expert on the history of postwar motorsport at every level. His other passions include books and classical music.
