Relive the Western Pacific's 1970-1980 period with film from seven different sources. Additional film material from pre-WWII and the sixties combined with archive photos and historical details round out this presentation.. The modest success of the Pearlman years and the last months of the California Zephyr are covered with plenty of great run-bys. Freight action includes the great scenery of Feather River Canyon along with the Nevada Desert. The WP yards in Oakland , Stockton and Sacramento give a look at the variety of equipment used. The street running in Oakland with big freight trains pulled by solid sets of F-units should bring back some great memories. More action with F-units, Geeps and U-boats in the Altamont Pass provide some great views of freight cars lettered for many of the railroads made extinct by mergers. See some great vintage action at the now defunct Stockton Tower where the WP, SP and Santa Fe all converge. We cover locals, switchers and some of the WP subsidiary lines plus action at Haggin crossing in Sacramento. This presentation is rounded out with epic film of the Western Pacific's Bicentennial painted GP-40 on the point of long freight trains.
